What on earth does being vegetarian or vegan have to do with maintaining weight?
Many people also maintain without any formal exercise.6 -
Yes to the exercise. No to the going vegan. I would add that a person should weigh themselves regularly and have a plan for what to do if their weight increases or decreases by three to five pounds from their ideal weight.1

I'm a carnivore and I maintain just fine and have for over 4 years. One of my wife's good friends is a vegan and she's obese...1
