I'm averaging 1200-1600 per day. I want to lose 125 lbs. I'm stationary in a wheelchair. Do I need more or less? I don't want to go in starving mode.

I would recommend reading up on and calculating your BMR and TDEE to figure out how many calories you need for weight loss. You may also want to talk to a physician/nutritionist. I would not rely solely on MFP calculations for calories. You need to investigate more if you are going to change your eating habits based on numbers instead of your instincts/habits.

If MFP gave you 1700 cals, eat 1700 cals. You can always tweak your goal after 4-6 weeks depending what the scale does.

    This.

Go by the calorie intake that MFP gave you.

IF the settings are correct then I'd follow that calorie goal. I say if, because if you've estimated your activity level too low with an aggressive weight loss goal then Mfp will give too low of a calorie range. But 1700 is a good #, it's what I started with when I joined.
