Exercise just after midnight before bed

So, I'm wide awake post midnight and normally exercise in the mornings. I know for a fact when I wake up I won't be bothered/actually want a lie in for once.

If I do some/most of my exercise routine now (jump rope for about 45 mins - 60 mins) and then go to bed, will it 'cancel' out meaning I can't say 'I've done my exercise for the day' when I wake up?

I know it's a really stupid question probably and all I guess I want is someone to say 'yes it counts' but just wanted to hear other people's thoughts.

It doesn't matter when you exercise. If you have energy at night and exercising doesn't keep you up even later, then it sounds like a great plan.

That's what I thought, it kind of felt like the meal timing debate - doesn't matter when you eat as long as it fits in/doesn't ruin your pattern etc.

I was just slightly concerned that any benefit I had from the exercise may be diminished by going to bed for like 7 hours. But then again, why would it? It's just a different time - exercise is exercise.

The reason I prefer (not at the time admittedly ....) doing exercise in the mornings/early when I wake up is because then it's out the way and feel better once it's done. I just knew when I woke up if I went to bed I would struggle to find motivation so thought may as well do it now and get it out the way.

I used to go for my run when I got home from night shift at 7am. Have my breakfast and go straight to bed for the day.

    Worked for me!

the only thing i don't like about exercising and going right to bed is that i like to have an hour or so of moving around for my body to cool down so my muscles don't cramp up, and i dont like getting into bed with my heart rate raised. that's just my personal preferences. But exercise is exercise regardless of when you do it.

I hope you don't live in an apartment. My neighbours would hate me if I exercised in the middle of the night. Come to think of it so would my boyfriend!

For many people exercising and having an elevated heart rate would impact on their ability to go to bed.
For many people drinking coffee or energy drinks before going to bed would be a bad idea.
For many people eating a large pizza before going to bed would be a bad idea.
And for some people all these things work fine.
