For me, fall means football and tailgating. This is the first year that I will really be paying attention to the nutrition of what I am eating. I am in need of some good, lower calorie tailgating recipes. I will be prepping food for a lot of people, so variety is necessary.

Is there anyone out there who has mastered healthy tailgating yet, who can give me some ideas and tips?

Thanks in advance!!

Vegetable medleys might work. Light beer. Many are right around 100 calories/12 oz. fruit.

Just making some slight changes will help a lot. You can always swap out your previous tail gating cuisine for something just slightly different-

turkey and veggie chili instead of beef and cheese chili
veggie platter and hummus instead of chips and dip
baked wings instead of fried wings
yogurt ranch dip instead of cream based dip
turkey burgers and grilled chicken instead of burgers and brats
lettuce wrap version instead of only burger buns
coleslaw with vinegar and a little oil instead of creamy dressing
baked potato wedges instead of fries

Chances are, people will eat what you serve them. Offer options, but include things that aren't so caloric so that everyone, not just you, can have the choice to eat those too. You never know who else in your party might appreciate the lower calorie option.

Tailgating?? I had to google what on earth you meant.

In Australia Tailgating means sitting too far up the butt of the car in front of you when driving lol

Haha means that here too ;-).

I had to look it up too. I didn't know there were tailgating parties. Parties held in the back of the tailgates of vehicles during footvall events or concerts . Crazy how I learn something new evety day.

    You are in control!!!

Munch on the veggie platter, jack all of the celery and carrot sticks that tend to show up with wings. Bring your own platter. Grilled chicken: just remove the skin - healthy protien! Burgers, do a lettuce wrapped burger, remember a large hamburger buns can be as much as 4 servings of carbs, for one bun!
Make yourself something filling and eat before you go, this way you will not be as tempted to eat everything as you won't be hungry.

I agree with the Skinny taste recommendation. If you look her up on Pinterest she has a board dedicated to tailgating!
My personal favorites (not from Skinny Taste) Cowboy Caviar, Mango Salsa, Guacamole, Chicken or Turkey (buffalo) Meatballs, grilled Chicken, Ceviche, Lettuce Wraps, Grilled Shrimp, Shrimp Cocktail.
Or if others bring food that is not healthy, just eat whatever it is in small portions.

    Falafel and hummus
    Veggie trays
Turkey burgers (or 1/2 turkey, 1/2 beef)
    Fruit with yogurt dip

Mostly, I eat the regular foods, but smaller portions.
