Self-sabotage? Not going for it!

My 17-year-old granddaughter was with me all summer, and she actually helped me stay on track with eating and exercise. After I told her what I was doing (she's a "bean pole," who eats 3,000 calories a day and still is a Size 6), she always chose meals and restaurants "that are healthy for you, Grandma."

However, I noticed that I had a little slump of depression after she went back home for the school year and after our summer children's program ended (I direct a six-week reading program for kids.) I ate fried hash browns three days in a row, plus had a brownie with ice cream one night. (I don't even LIKE chocolate like that.) I gained back two pounds in two weeks.

But I'm back on track. As soon as I became aware that I was "lonely eating," I got right back on the eating/exercise plan. I lost the two pounds plus one, and I'm smiling again.

Depression is a trigger for me. Feeling alone is a trigger, too. Keeping my eye on those things!

Success is possible. I've lost a total of 28 pounds since I started this plan in February.

Good for you for that initial loss and for getting yourself back on track again. People might argue that there was nothing wrong with hash browns or brownies, but if you're like me, those comfort foods make it easier to eat more than you burn.

Almost makes me want a grandchild ;) You had a very nice summer! Learning our triggers are a huge step. Sometimes we stumble but we can always recover. I am at the empty nest phase and I also noticed that not having someone around (even if they are not watching what you eat) did effect my eating. At least before I probably would't buy too much junk just even with the thought of my daughter seeing it - now it's all me!

Keep at it and know that your granddaughter and all of MFP are rooting for you to do the right thing :)
