Am I eating too many calories?

So, long story short I've lost weight before on Weight Watchers when they were on Points Plus. I got down to 150 lbs but I slowly gained it back (life, school, personal life, etc reasons) plus some over the past 8 or so years. I've been trying to do Weight Watchers (Smart Points) for the past couple on months but am really struggling with losing the same couple of pounds. I have started exercising again as well. I have a desk job so I would consider myself lightly active. Can someone help guide me to how many calories I should be eating a day?

You're not eating too many if you are not losing weight.

Have you set up MFP? If so how many calories did it tell you to eat?

If you have a desk job you and are sat down for the majority of the day you are sedentary, not lightly active, the activity level refers to your non-exercise activity, you then log your exercise separately.

If you fill in your profile accurately, MFP will calculate the required amount of calories for you.

I think OP is eating too many calories to lose weught. If they weren't eating too many they would be losing.

Ha ha , yes I have misread it as not eating enough. :DB)

I took a quick look at your diary and you may want to tighten up your logging. For example, how do you measure 3 tbsp of raw spinach? (And yes, I know spinach is low calorie and being off on that may not make a huge difference but if you get enough incorrect entries they add up!) I suspect you may be eating a lot more than you think.

Try weighing all solids and saving the cups and spoons for liquids.

I found using the MyFitnessPal App on my Phone and PC has been the best way to stay the course. I set up my profile with a goal of 2 lb a week loss. I have not found it hard to stay on course, and have actually been able to eat good foods. It forces you to think about what you eat and more importantly the consequences of eating what you eat and deciding whether you exercise. The more you exercise, the more calories you burn but I found it important to incorporate some strength training and HITT exercises in my routines. Working out for 20 minutes for example can burn 200 calories which makes a difference. I have started running up the stairs to my office floor, which burns about 25 calories but also builds up the legs and gets the cardio. Doing that 4 x a day = 100, and then some exercise after work, and you got 300 calories, which makes my 1570 daily allowable intake easier to follow. Don't be afraid to partake in a couple bites of this and that sweet thing from time to time, just don't eat an entire bag, box, or pie. Drink lots of water. I'm at 80 oz minimum a day not counting what's in my coffee, tea or foods. I also have a Withings Body scale which measures water, BMI, fat, muscle, etc. and synchs to the MyFitnessPal. MapMyFitness also synchs to the MyFitnessPal making all of this easier to track. I have been at it for 2 weeks and lost 7 lb and have 20 to go, maybe 25. Hope to be there by end of September:) All the Best to you all with your efforts!
