20 pounds in ten weeks!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get opinions on what people think is a healthy weight loss goal for ten weeks? Ultimately, id like to lose 20 pounds. I have a Vegas trip at the end of October. Im thinking about setting weekly goals of 1-1/2 to 2 pounds a week. Is this an achievable weight loss goal in the amount of time im hoping for?

It really depends on the person and how their body responds to diet and exercise. The more pounds you need to lose, the faster the weight loss is in the beginning from my experience. The smaller amount of weight left until your goal, the slower it is to lose. You could possibly lose 20lbs, but you may only be able to lose about 1/2 lb a week. Even if you don't lose everything in those 10 weeks, you should be proud regardless and go to Vegas and have a good time. You have your whole life and many future trips.

Your body fat can metabolize at the rate of 31.4 calories per pound of fat per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, that means a deficit of 1000 calories per day, requiring about 32 pounds of fat. You need to get your current BF% and multiply that times your weight to figure out how much fat you have. Then keep in mind that the loss should drop the BF% and amount of fat as you lose. If your deficit is ever more than your fat can supply, then it comes from lean body mass instead and you don't want that. EDIT - Actually some of the lost weight will always come from LBM also, but if you have enough fat for the deficit you will lose mostly fat generally about 80% of what is lost.

That really depend on where you're at now, if you have a lot to loose then 2lb/wk is okay. Since you only want to loose 20, and judging by your profile pic, 2lb/wk is a bit aggressive. I don't know where'd you'd loose it from though as you look pretty trim in your pic and loosing 20 off that would look unhealthy imo.

I think you could do it, but it will be a false reading and it will mainly go back on again. To be fit and lose weight for life you need to wholeheartedly grasp the nettle and change your lifestyle. This isnt a diet site its a health and fitness site. So eat good healthy food, in smaller portions, exercise lots, drink plenty of water and you'll reveal the new you in no time, and you'll stay that way because you'll live that way. Good luck and enjoy Vegas.

According to your ticker you only have 24lbs to lose... so 20lbs in 10 weeks for you is not doable in a healthy way. 2lbs a week is really only healthy for those who have a lot of weight to lose. If you don't have a lot to lose and try to lose weight quickly by having a deficit that is too large you will end up losing more muscle than fat.

Take it slow to ensure it's healthy and lasting weight loss. Eat at a smaller deficit, lift heavy weights, get enough protein.

Confidence will make a person look much better than them losing a few lbs.

If that picture is recent it doesn't look to me like you are at a weight where you can safely lose that much that quickly. The less you weigh, the slower you lose. I would set a goal between 0.5 and 1 pounds a week.

If you are more concerned about looking good than weighing less, consider starting a lifting routine. Here is what 8 weeks of lifting did for me (same weight in both pics):
