I read this in the NG magazine we received yesterday and was able to find it online as well. It's an interesting article that explains a bit more about the development of our love for sugar as a culture and why it is so addictive. Sorry if it's already been posted, but I didn't see it on the first couple pages.

Fascinating. I never really knew the history of sugar. I have been reading more and more the bad effects sugar has on our bodies including feeding cancer cells. (Wish I could remember where I rad that article so I could post the link) Thank you for sharing.0

Please don't spread baseless information. You know what else feeds cancer cells? Air, better stop breathing.0 -

I agree, if you make a claim like that, you better show me a published scientific study on it, or don't say it in the first place.0 -

I would consider that spreading that nutrition doesn't matter to health is "baseless". There are about 200 years of data and observations to show that sugar is sickening and killing us. I wouldn't call that "baseless". Of course, in the last couple of generations it's been downplayed and under-reported since the food industry controls much of the research that looks at nutrition. They wouldn't want us all to cut our sugar now, would they? And all those "low fat" goodies out there-full of sugar. Still think natural, saturated fats are "bad" for you but all the sugar and seed oils that replaced them are "good"? Think again.
Sick people are great for profits.
There is compelling evidence (I did not say "fact") that a ketogenic lifestyle is very effective at preventing cancer. (Remember, there is no record of cancer in humans until a grain/sugar based diet becomes the norm.)0 -

Please read this, it's a direct rebuttal by a VERY reputable Nutrition Scientist about the lecture you just posted:

There's lots. Go find them yourself. Nutritional research is full of contradictory stuff. Look at things yourself and make up your own mind. But don't slam people who are at least curious and looking for answers. It's not a "claim" of fact if someone has an opinion about something; no matter how much you disagree and want to ridicule it.

Outdated information is outdated. 120,000 year old fossil record.
Abstract
We describe the first definitive case of a fibrous dysplastic neoplasm in a Neandertal rib (120.71) from the site of Krapina in present-day Croatia. The tumor predates other evidence for these kinds of tumor by well over 100,000 years. Tumors of any sort are a rare occurrence in recent archaeological periods or in living primates, but especially in the human fossil record. Several studies have surveyed bone diseases in past human populations and living primates and fibrous dysplasias occur in a low incidence. Within the class of bone tumors of the rib, fibrous dysplasia is present in living humans at a higher frequency than other bone tumors. The bony features leading to our diagnosis are described in detail. In living humans effects of the neoplasm present a broad spectrum of symptoms, from asymptomatic to debilitating. Given the incomplete nature of this rib and the lack of associated skeletal elements, we resist commenting on the health effects the tumor had on the individual. Yet, the occurrence of this neoplasm shows that at least one Neandertal suffered a common bone tumor found in modern humans.

Also, no one said nutrition doesn't matter to health. Specifically sugar "feeding cancer cells" was called out. I also do not see demonizing food as helpful in anyway. Weight control and health are mutually exclusive things. They don't have to be, but they can be.0 -

This is laughable, please understand the difference between correlation and causation. Ketogenic diets, by definition are made up almost entirely of fat and protein. Fat and protein are both extremely satiating, while most carbs and especially sugars are not. This causes people on Ketogenic diets to be filled up with a fewer number of calories than a standard diet, or the typical western diet and typically ketogenic diets prevent over-consumption. The standard western diet is not very satiating and often causes over-consumption. This does not make carbs, or more specifically sugar the cause of diseas, and rises in obesity, but instead over consumption, and a calorie surplus the cause for diseases. Here's some important things to note:
In 1970, Americans consumed an estimated 2169 calories per person, per day.
In 2010, they consumed an estimated 2614 calories per person per day, an increase of 445 calories per day.
Since the 1960s, there has been a drop of 142 calories of occupation related energy expenditure per day
There has also been a decrease of non occupation related energy expenditure of at least 100 calories per day.
This adds up to a 700 calorie per day energy surplus leading to the rise in obesity and overweight individuals.
Almost all non communicable diseases are a result of being overweight, not the presence of a subcategory of a macronutrient in your diet.
Stop blaming everything on sugar...0 -

Don't tell me I'm wrong, and then explain that sugar is bad, and proceed to provide zero evidence for why it's bad, and then tell me to go find evidence myself. That's not how it works. What you said was not an opinion. Opinions cannot be right or wrong, they are viewpoints on subjective issues. You made a statement on an issue that has scientific evidence to the contrary, so that just makes your claim, incorrect. If you want to prove that your claim was correct, provide me with evidence, I am not going to do your work for you.0 -

What I learned from that article.
• People have been consuming sugar for over 10,000 years
• People nowadays are fat so sugar is to blame

Check out MD Anderson's opinions on sugar feeding cancer. Quick summary: eating sugar does not lead to cancer. Being overweight/obese puts you at a higher risk for cancer. So, basically, eating too much sugar usually means too many calories and weight gain. Therefore, a higher incidence of cancer.

So, I wonder how they explain cancers that don't have this mutation or a similar one? Not all cancers (even of the same type) have the same causal mutations, and glucose uptake is not one of the ones required to get a malignant cell, unlike mutations that affect cell division, contact inhibition, and immortalization.
Sounds like poor logic, to me.0
