Set a realistic calorie goal and stick to it. My personal experience is I do better sticking to a weekly goal so I have lower calorie days on workdays (when I find it easy to stick to around 1200 a day) and then higher goals on weekend (like 2000), because it keeps me sane, gives me my weekend, and has the same overall deficit, so same loss. I weigh on a Friday, so that my higher calorie weekend doesn't mess with my weigh in (or my head)7

Stay consistent and don't feel discouraged if the scale doesn't move for a while. Just keep it up and the loss will appear eventually and probably very sudden!4

For me, I am not weighing myself daily anymore. It was affecting my moods! I just went about 2 weeks without weighing and was happy when I finally saw a few pounds lost this morning!5

Set 1lbs loss a week. So that means 40+ weeks of consistency and accuracy with moderate calorie deficit. Anything less will usually mean that you WON'T reach that time line.

My best tip is to make it easy, enjoyable if you can. Don't starve yourself and don't over exercise.
Getting to goal quickly is not the goal. Losing weight and keeping it off is the goal. IMO, losing weight slowly helps you to get to goal (because you never let it get so tough that you are tempted to quit), but even more importantly helps you keep it off. When it's easy and enjoyable, you don't procrastinate getting back into a small deficit when you've gained a few pounds.
Get your protein and fruits and veggies in, get some cardio in (even if it's just walking), do some strength training, aim for a small deficit and try to enjoy the process!3 -
I'd add to what has already been said, drink enough water.2

Stop looking for tips, and educate yourself on the basics. They are really really simple: Eat less, move more.
Stop trying, start doing. There is no way around that. But you can do it the fun and easy way, or the hard and painful way. The choice is yours. Believe that you always have the choice.4 -
Make lots of small changes rather than just one big change, don't beat yourself up if you have any off day and Don't restrict or demonize any food group.4

Simplify and don't overcomplicate. Food has calories, controlling that controls weight. The end. Any details you decide to incorporate are just things you feel make the process easier for you, not needlessly add random rules that don't serve a purpose.1

Calories in VS calories out. Also for me works so good eating regularly. Every three hours, 5 times per day0

This is it right here. It's imperative to weed out all of the junk science & information out there & get down to basics.
I wasted so much time, energy & effort trying to find a way to lose weight that didn't completely settle 100% of the responsibility on me for my overeating & lack of activity. For some crazy reason, rather than empowering myself with the understanding that I am in complete control, I subscribed to the philosophy that if I just stopped eating all the "bad" things out there or atoned for my eating sins by killing myself in the gym, I was on the right track. It wasn't my fault, my body hates me, yada yada yada.
As others have said, it's basic calories in vs calories out. Find what kinds of foods are satiating to you (both in appetite, energy & cravings), and make it work within a calorie goal you can live with. Start small with exercise & choose activities you enjoy.2
