Setting smaller goals

Hi.

I've been bouncing back and forth between living healthfully and being lazy about exercising/eating. I initially set my MFP weight loss goal at my ultimate goal, but I think it's too intimidating of a number. So I made it more manageable, but I am wondering if this is the best way.

About me-I'm 26. Always been a big girl. I've been a size 15/16 since I was probably in 7th grade. There was one summer (when I was 20) when I got down to 185 (a nearly loose 14) because I was working as a gardener 5 days a week, 8 hours a day in the hot hot summer sun, but after moving away for college I gained it all back in a year.

Height: 5'10
Starting weight: 223
Current: 210
Final goal: 150
Current goal: 175

Now, I'm a full-time writer, so I spend the majority of my time sitting (or laying in bed as I currently am). I also work most nights and weekends, which leaves me with little free time, so I tend to spend that time with my bf and friends rather than at the gym. But I'm feeling enthusiastic about losing weight, so I'm trying to put more emphasis on working out this week at least.

I'm trying TDEE (been about 3 weeks, no results yet), I'm also working my way through Couch to 5k. I'm on the last day of week 3, but haven't been to the gym in a week. I am determined to make it all the way through this time. I tried it once a few years ago, but didn't even finish week three because I was so out of shape, so at least I'm in better shape now than I was back then.

I'm thinking about setting my goal weight to 199, just to get myself out of the 200s, and then dropping it 10lbs at a time. Has anyone tried to do it this way - setting smaller goals and adjusting as you meet them? Do you think it works better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
