Wt training and pushing past limits with HIIT

Yesterday I did the Nike Interval app, which is HIIT, and I went further than I have in the past, but at 22 mins, I had to stop because I physically couldn't do it and was whimpering while doing wall squats. My issue is that, after I stopped and my heart rate went to normal, I was fine and could do the squats. I don't have this issue when doing weight machines or free weights, but admittedly I do it at my own pace and take 30 sec rests. I can do cardio for an hour, no issue. I had the same issue with 30 day Shred, it took me awhile to complete one level all the way through because I need breaks when weigh training

I want to make sure that I am not psyching myself out, because I am only semi sore today, but nothing where I couldn't do some activity, but I felt near death yesterday. My plan is to do it again tomorrow and go further. I've done bootcamps before when I weighed 30 lbs more and I finished those 60 min classes because the teacher was scary and intimidating. But at the end of those classes I was crawling out the door and felt it the next day.I guess I wanted to know if anyone had tips on pushing through walls, but also knowing when I really can't take it. I never want to "phone it in" because I am trying to make real physical changes. Thanks
