Don't be afraid of vacations

Really, don't. If you travel a bit longer you're bound to store more waterweight for a few days. For me, it's flying that is really bad.

I just came back from Svalbard (yes, I'm crazy) and had a fantastic time. And I had such fantastic food, ranging from a four course meal including interesting things such as smoked bear, reindeer heart, and a fantastic deconstructed cheese cake with fresh berries and lots of cream. Mink whale steak, moose burger with more berries and sweat potato fries, and lots of fish. I might have regained 1kg in the end, but hey, that was worth it. And lets be honest, it's 1kg, or 2.2lbs and not 10s or more. I'd do it again and enjoy my food, without stuffing me senseless of course but rather try the unusual things.

Hurray that you had a a great time! It sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and I would kick myself if I had the chance to try some of those exotic foods and passed them up because.... diet....

I agree. When I go on vacation, I want to enjoy all the delicious food that I don't usually get to have. I don't care if I gain a pound or two as a result, a few weeks of good logging afterwards will get rid of it anyway.

I always lose weight on vacation, because I eat to be fueled up, I enjoy the local food, and I don't sit around grazing.

Yes...the scared of vacation threads always make me die a little inside. I love to travel to new and interesting places and the food is part of it for me. In the grand scheme of things, a week or two vacation isn't really material.

Exactly! I already had so much interested food this year, and I would have been really annoyed had I skipped any of it.

Though to be honest, what makes me sad is to read that people travel somewhere and then eat what they always eat but more, or stick with all inclusive. But to each their own of course. For me traveling is exploring: food, surroundings, archaeology, history, whatever...

Yep. It's not a sprint, and medical problems aside there's no reason to not slow down a bit every now and then and actually go on vacation.

I unfortunately missed out on one thing: seal. The only restaurant in town serving it had none as hunting season had only just started.

I also die a little inside when I see the vacation fear threads because I, personally, do not get vacations and have not had one in decades. Closest I get is trips to London to stay with a parent for a few days and I can assure you, I do not stick to my usual chicken and vegetable dinners during those times. I still maintain awareness of how much I am eating but desserts are always on the menu during those visits. Unless one is going on vacation more than a few times a year, I don't think letting loose a little should be an issue - in most cases, a large amount of the gain is water weight anyway.
