I CAN'T SLEEP!

I just started walking at the gym and watching my diet. Cutting carbs and sugar. I have high blood pressure and I don't know what is going on with my body right now. I go to sleep fine then wake up at 1 or 2 and can't go back to sleep! I'm miserable. Any suggestions as to why this may be happening?

    Congratulations. You are getting older.
I bought a book and I'm trying all the "things" such as cutting caffeine after noon, not using computer, etc.
One thing that is really helping is taking Magnesium Citrate (not oxide which is cheaper) from walmart.
    200mg a night (at least).
I had tried Melatonin 3mg, but that just helps you fall asleep. Magnesium helps with the full night.
***** If you are taking any medications, you MUST speak to your doctor before taking any supplement. Magnesium may lower your blood pressure and probably cause problems with any prescriptions you may be taking.

One odd thing that is helping is drinking a can of low sodium V8 before going to sleep. Three nights now, I have been sleeping really well.
I found that alcohol seriously screws up my sleep.
If you go to a doctor, all they do is prescribe a pill to get rid of you. Sad since prescriptions can become addictive and often have many side effects.

More: My husband swears that when the house is hot he does not sleep as well. I'm hoping it's just a summer time thing and my sleep will be back to normal soon.
If you are taking any pills to lose weight, stop them. They often have caffeine.

Changes to diet and exercise can impact sleep, I already had trouble sleeping and it did seem to get worse when I started in a deficit (despite it being moderate and eating a relatively balanced diet).

I just started taking Magnesium supplements to see if they help and had a couple of decent night's sleep for the first time in months.

I had this happen in the first two or three weeks of exercising regularly. It went away. I blamed it to my body trying to learn to cope with the new energy levels.

Here is a recent thread with more "ideas". From yesterday. Could be helpful to read.

I think lower magnesium is my problem lately with sleep as well. I am phasing into Keto and my potassium has also drop big time based on the MFP tracking #'s. Supplements are on my horizon, too. My sleep is out of wack right now after making big changes a week in.

It took a couple days but it did work. I bought the citrate, the oxide is the most I see out there. As another person commented you don't want the oxide. Your body doesn't use it as effectively. Also make sure you drink a lot of water when you take it. Good luck!

I feel ya, since I got out of the army sleep has been tough for me. Ptsd is a *kitten*. Anyway for the last month I have found a natural way that helps me. I drink 2 tbs of apple cider vinegar with 1 tbs of lemon juice add 1 ml of Ashwaganda root liquid and 1 tea spoon local raw honey..all that in 6 oz water. doing this I don't wake up and my sleep tracker shows my deep sleep has more then doubled. I sleep the same amount just better and more restful. My wife says my racoon eyes are going away. hope that helps
