Vacation tips?

I have to go to a conference for a week in a tropical location. Then I will be home for a week and a bit and then going to Portland (land of the best happy hours ever!) for a week. I have decent gyms in both hotels. I have worked very hard to lean up this summer and I am a bit worried that it will all be for naught by the end of these trips.
Any advice? Experiences? Wisdom?

I travel a lot for work too. Last week I went to Switzerland, the land of cheese, wine and chocolate and guess what? I'm on a diet - no fat cheese, no chocolate, no wine. But I managed to survive.Just enjoyed teir delicious coffee.
Just have a good oatmeal or eggs or omelet for breakfast. They always have it hotels. Grilled salmon and salad for lunch. And salad for dinner. It's pretty easy.0 -

I checked your profile and I see you are a former runner but have knee problems. Bummer; I used that as an eraser during my last couple of trips, doing dawn patrol before my shower. I would definitely allow myself some indulgence but try to offset it by having an 80 calorie yogurt (like Dannon Light & Fit Greek) for breakfast or similar means. I might even skip breakfast. I did not gain on either of my recent trips (one business, one vacation). Another thing that helped me is that I love seafood; boiled shrimp and seared tuna are treats to me.0

Man that daily menu sounds boring while away.
Why not just go and enjoy yourself? Come back home and go back to your normal routine.
If I enjoy myself meaning eating chocolate, cheese and drinking wine, I'll gain weight.
So no thanks. That's exactly opposite my goal.
When I do lose weight and get back in my best shape, I'll let myself enjoy chocolate but so far jst no.0 -

I think I am with you GoGlam. I don't want to wreck everything just because I am away (when I started mfp I had just got back from Italy...food debauchery). I will do my best.0 -
Just got back from Boston, home of some fine Italian food. It's also home of some fabulous walking tours, and one can walk off any indulgence if given the time. I find that the walking added to my pleasure from the trip, too. Going to Germany in a few months and I already know how far to walk per ounce of chocolate....... The elliptical in the gym is a boring but effective alternative.0

Recently did a cross country trip from NV to IN and up to South Dakota and managed to still lose 2.5 lbs in the two weeks I was away. I just made the healthy menu choices and found low fat, low cal snacks just in case I needed it. I found making the healthier choices from the menu pretty good actually. Three months ago I would have gone wild. Try to stay on track, but don't kick yourself if you indulge a little. Good luck.0
