That's actually true. It's the scariest. It's the unknowniest. Once you get through a month you aren't scared of waiting a few hours for a next meal.3

Hi, you are doing great. Just stick to it and dont lose focus. I am also a newbie, started few weeks back but with a bit of discipline I can see the results now. I must stress that it is very important to log everything you eat hope it helps3
-
Also it takes less and less time to log your food as you build up your diary.5
-
Absolutely!! it is hard in the begining but as you keep logging the app is intelligent to know the repeat items2

The first month totally is the toughest. I agree! Best of luck, let's think about how this month brings us closer to our goals!2

It's so true. Not only is it the 'scariest' and 'unknowniest', as @JeromeBarry1 so wisely put it, but it's the period when your body is getting used to eating less, you're building new habits, and those of us who are comfort eaters have to start coming to grips with emotional things we hadn't needed to deal with before, etc. And some of that will continue after the first month is over so make good use of the community here!
Speaking for myself, I went not just over, but hilariously over my allotted calories like 3 times in the first week, but we're ultimately adaptable creatures, and I'm in a bit of a zone now, 100-ish days in. I looked for MFP buddies who were proactive about support and encouragement, and started from Page 1 of some of the long-running 'success story' forums like 'What's your latest NSV (non-scale victory)?' or 'What nobody tells you about losing weight' and read through a few pages whenever I needed a bit of inspiration.
Good luck, and add me if you think it will help.5 -
I don't know what you are doing, but for me, the zeroth, and the last, months have always been the toughest.3

I disagree. First month you have all the excitement and enthusiasm. Month 5 when this is just the habit and enthusiasm has waned and calories have lowered and you have lost a bunch of weight is the hardest because that's when you have to determine you can't go back to your old ways. Deciding not to yoyo not to mindlessly eat a party size bag of Reese cups ect.4

I agree with @amtyrell. The first month with all the new stuff and things to read up on and easy progression at the gym was easy. The second was discouraging so far, as I did not see the same progression in the gym and so far do not feel my body is changing at all. Also I got much less satisfied with the same amount of calories and the same foods that were no problem in the first month. And because the rules are not new anymore, I feel more inclined to allow "exceptions".
I don't want to say the second is the worst in general. It also depends on your environment and general stress level. Some days are just easier or harder than others. So are months. But the first day/week/month of anything is usually the easiest for me. It might feel hard at the time, but in hindsight, it was not. Just unusual.
The important thing is to use the first month to learn the behaviors that you will have to fall back on during the hard months.3 -
Thanks for all your feedback everyone ! I love hearing other people's insight. Feel free to add me I'd love to see everyone's journey !1

^^^ THIS. Although I rarely actually make it to 5 months. I usually fall off somewhere in month 2. The first month is the EASIEST! All the motivation to get it done, new meals to try out, etc. Plus I love seeing the first few pounds melt off which often happens the first month. Then it slows down. The motivation is harder to find, the meals become mundane.
I wish every month could be the first month. :-)1 -
First month.
Five months.
First year!!!
Two years!!!
Just remember guys. This journey is not linear.
It is often three steps forward, two steps backward.
What you do is become better at is this.
You have a bad day, you pick yourself up, and you start again. And you just keep on going.
You don't stop.
You cheer with your little victories, you forgive yourself when you have a blow out, and you just keep on putting that one foot in front of the other.
You research. You try new things. Seek out support. But you know what. You learn. You grow.
You get better at.
And that is what drives us. Every day2
