I have been reading about the benifits of taking colon cleanse supplements while dieting, are any suppliments actually beneficial to aid weight loss or are they all hype?

Bogus. Save your money, time and mental health. Stop reading that kind of blogs/articles/ads, or just use them as entertainment.
Weight loss is solely about consistently taking in fewer calories than you burn. That sounds so boring, right. But there's no way around it, and you can make it both easy and fun.2 -
"Colon cleanse supplement" are a PR spin name for laxatives. Laxative abuse is NOT good and is worse than useless. It can lead to bowel problems and dependency.5

A good bacterial balance is necessary in your colon. Without it you do not get proper nutrition absorption from food. Last thing you want is to clean out good bacteria. You will also cause an electrolyte imbalance and possibly dehydration.
Since you are going to do this anyway, here is a better idea: Spend a day eating good natural foods you cook yourself. I promise you will feel good.

ExLax will have the same effect, and is much cheaper. Same with an enima.
Save you're money, your body naturally cleanses your colon on a regular basis.3
