Mapmyrun Routes

I am going to be visiting San Fran and want to run a 20 mile run.

I use Maymyrun app as my main running app but I have never really understood how to use the capability of creating predetermined routes. Does anyone know how to create a predetermined route that can guide you by voice and show you on the app if you are off course and how to get back on course (kind of like a "rerouting" for google maps. I am worried that I will get lost since there will be a lot of turns

With running in a big city running I am afraid that if I create a route but miss a turn or two that I go off course.

What I do when running a new route is map out a course ahead of time, then write on a piece of paper the turns and the names of the streets i.e. .7 R on Johnson, 1.3 left on Lyndia, 2.7 cross Rte. 30, etc. In a city, the roads are likely to be signed, which isn't always the case where I live. Having the distances means that I know if I reach a road at 1.3, then it's probably the right one even if it doesn't have a sign.

San Francisco isn't that difficult to find your way. The city simply isn't that big. You have several main roads like Market and Geary and Van Ness. You have the bay on each side. You have prominent hills. You'll see lots of runners along the marina or in Golden Gate Park. If nothing else, there are lots of bus stops, usually with maps.

I use a Garmin, so I can enter a route and it will beep at me when a turn is coming up. I wasn't aware MapMyRun had gotten past the legal issues involved in providing that capability.
