Triple Play Bundles (Phone, Internet, Cable) - Suggestions?

Nothing to do with fitness but I was hoping you can chime in.

I'm considering ditching FIOS triple-play since my $131 "bundle" magically becomes a $250+ mo/ bill. I may port my number to MagicJack or my wireless carrier. I don't watch much TV ... Netflix and Hulu combined cost less each month than HBO alone. I rarely use my house phone, its a telemarketer wasteland and I don't spend much time in the house (I just want to retain the number since I had it so long). Internet is the only service I can substantiate at this point (and my surfing is mostly done on smartphone and tablet w/ tethering via wireless carrier). Do you guys have any suggestions for me? Any experience with MagicJack? Should I just ditch all - I just feel like I'm wasting money. Share your experience with this (please). Thanks.

    I don't have Magic Jack, but I know of a couple people who use it and love it. If you want to keep that number, then Magic Jack is probably your best option. If you use tethering for your internet, then ditch the home ISP. and if you are okay with Netflix and Huli, or other online sources for TV, then either get a video hook up for your laptop to the TV. If you are keeping a home ISP, then maybe get AppleTV or a TV with internet connectivity.

    Thanks for the reply ... I may keep internet service and just ditch the phone and cable. I heard mixed reviews about Magic Jack but I don't use my house phone enough for it to matter, I just want to keep the number and maybe forward calls to my cell.

    We always cancel after ten months, sub-in Netflix, and then sign up again to get the low price again. :bigsmile:

    Call them and tell them you are getting ready to switch to dish and it will only cost you "xxxx" amount. They will match it or beat it to keep you on. I like WendyTerry's idea too! :laugh:

    This sounds like a great idea ... I hate that newbies always get the best rate. Guess you have to do what you have to do to be NEW again :laugh:

    This strategy generally doesn't work with Verizon, they don't give a crap and don't pretend to either. They don't send you to the retention department to give you a sweetheart deal and thank you for your years of patronage so you'll stay - they'll tell you goodbye in a heartbeat and remind you that until they receive your set-top box you'll still be charged rental fees for it.

    IKR? The standard rates are absurd. I won't pay that! :noway:

    I am a seasonal employee; I work ten months and I'm on furlough for two months, every year. So we cancel a lot of things, most everything we can get away with, during those two months off.

    I haven't had cable for years.
    My phone = cell 50/month
    Internet = 50/month

    I have Netflix (9/month), Amazon Prime (80/year), and a private Anonymous VPN(10/month) to view ....other stuff.

    I never have to watch commercials and can watch anything when I want to. it's great!

    Ideally, I'd pay Netflix and Hulu (< $20/mo for both), I already have Prime. I can forward the home number to my cell with Magic Jack for $30/year. My internet is $30 now for 25/15 speed I think, I'll probably upgrade that.
