Looking for like-minded folk!

Hi everyone!

I'm 33/f in Boston. At my highest weight in 2002, after graduating college, I was around 205 pounds (at 5'4.) Between 2002 and 2008 I dropped down to 165/170, and stayed there over the years. I got into running/exercise a LOT since then, and my body definitely does NOT reflect how hard I work- so it's time to get on MFP and control the diet!

I started here about a month ago, and have lost 7 pounds. Currently, I'm 5'4 158. Ideally, my goal is to get down to about 125- but at this stage, I'd be happy to see what 140 looks like.

I try to net around 1400-1600 calories a day, more if I've done a super tough workout. I had to clean out my friends list recently- too many people eating/netting fewer than 1200. Good for them, but that's not sustainable for me.

Feel free to add me! :)

We have been on the same amount of time and lost about the same amount. I have to eat very low calorie because I no longer have a thyroid. My endocrinologist told me that and he seems to be right. That may disqualify as a potential friend to you. I'm not sure I understand that though. You'd always be able to feel lucky compared to me. ;-)
    Best wishes!

I'm in NH have been back on MFP for about 6 days. I do eat 1200 a day and workout almost everyday. I have 70 pounds to lose at 5'0. Once I get down a bit I will increase my cals per day. Also have newly diagnosed thyroid disease. Which makes weight lose over 40 boat loads of fun... Add if you want.

1200 calories per day isn't sustainable for anyone who is taller than an oompa loompa, IMHO. It's really hard to get enough nutrition in 1200 calories not to end up deficient in something.

What a great success story! I am a 25/f in KY and joined a gym and trainer last fall. I have lost around 10 lbs, and put on about 10 lbs of muscle. I have seen a change in my body, but joined MFP to focus more on what I am putting into my body. My goal weight is 140, with a body fat percentage around 15. Lots of work to do, but I absolutely agree with your approach. My trainer explained to me that when you take in less then 1200 cals/day, your body starts eating it's stored fuel (ie. protein). Most think that would mean fat... but it actually means muscle. Your body will eat the most dense material first before it hits the fat. In the meantime, you are sending your bod into starvation mode, which can do some pretty nasty things to your health.

The thing I tell myself if this... I didn't get this size in 2 wks, 2 months, or even 2 years. It took 25 years of bad habits to put this weight on, so I fully expect to take a few years of healthy living to get to my goal weight.

I prefer the lean, muscular look to the starving, waif model look, so I have been hitting the gym 4x/wk, 30 mins of weights, 30 minutes light cardio. I would like to increase that cardio to an hour, adding running, which I hate, to the mix.

Stay motivated! Excited to see how you progress!
