Clothing sizes...ugh!

This didn't seem to fit any other category, and it's more a complaint than anything, but....this is probably going to resonate more-so with the ladies of MFP, but clothing sizes suck! Between my closet & dresser, the clothes that I can comfortably wear are anywhere from a size 10 to a size 17. My tops range from Medium to Extra Large. And it seems like it depends more on where they're from than whom they're from.

My smaller sizes are from department stores. The others, are from Walmart. All purchased this summer. I'm not picky on where my clothes come from, as long as they look good & I like them. However, the seemingly random sizing is ridiculous. I have 2 pair of the same short, bought the same day; in different colors, but same fabric and they are different sizes. Like a 12 & a 16. Maybe they were mis-tagged, but I've had this happen often enough that I don't think that's the case. Meanwhile, my husband can go to any store and buy a pair of jeans in the same size as the ones he's wearing. Year after year, even if his size goes up. I have been wearing the same pair of jeans for 2yrs - still fit comfortably - yet the same brand & same cut of jean now, is no less than 2 sizes larger. They fit the same way my current ones do, and they are the same size when held against each other. But you wouldn't know that by looking at the rack & picking up a pair based on your size.

It has always seemed to me that women's clothes are just arbitrarily sized, where as men's go by actual measurements. I know that Levi sizes by measurements, but they seem to be the only ones I've found. I don't know if this is intentional, but in my case at least, I can't just buy clothes. I have to try on a variety of sizes for each piece & see what size it's been assigned this season. I've been at this weight for awhile, and even on the same shopping trip it's rare I buy multiple items in the same size.

Just complaining, and thought some others would feel the same way. I don't own any Levi's because I can't justify that cost on a pair of pants I can only wear 2x a week.

Oh I totally understand. I deal with the same nonsense which is why I prefer to get men's clothes if I can manage it.

I feel your pain. I used to wear size 16-28 and now I wear size 8-14. LOL While yes, the majority of my clothes were 22 and are now 10...it's insane that I've ALWAYS had a huge range of sizes in my closet and probably always will.

I have a cotton sundress from a thrift store that I adore, but the size tag says "small size 4-6" on it and I would say it's a 10 if not 12. All I can guess is maybe it's maternity? LOL

I have heard of them, thanks! But I like to try things on & this way I don't have to send them back if I don't like them.
