Calculating calories burned when rowing

Does anyone know of a good method to calculate calories burned while rowing ( indoors)? I would prefer something that underestimates rather than overestimates. Thanks.

My advice. If it's a really nice machine where you can input your stats, and shows calories burned, just use that. If not, I always lower the "calories burned" by 10%. So if MFP of a generic machine that shows calories but has no way to input stats (how can that be even close to accurate) lists me as burning 400 calories, I input 360 on MFP. It's my way of putting a buffer into my calorie recommendation.

If you use a Concept 2 rower, the machine doesn't use your stats, but they do have a calculator online where you can adjust the machine's calorie estimate based on your bodyweight:

Though I have a Concept 2, and even use it once the real river ices up, I usually just go by my Polar heart rate monitor. I've compared the 2 results, and don't remember the exact outcome, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't wildly different (I think I'd remember if it had been).

^Agree. The C2 online weight adjustment is accurate. I load my workouts into their online log and it does the math automatically.

And even better, because I use a newer machine with a PM5 model monitor, I can connect it to my phone with Bluetooth and just sync it. Love it.
