i am 67 semi active climb stairs and walk they say on here i need to stick to 1,200 calories a day to lose 1 or 2 lb but i know i will not stick to that as i get to hungry as i have tried calories that low before and given it up for that reason.Is there any way if i eat 1300 i will lose any weight.

    Depending upon how active you are you can most likely eat up to 1,500 calories per day and still lose weight, it will just be slower. One of the things to consider if you are eating 1,200-1,300 calories a day and still feeling hungry is what you are eating. Measuring out your portions is important and eating lots of vegetables and protein. Try to keep you empty calories to a minimum. I like to say "single ingredient foods". You should also be drinking over 60 oz of water/day. Also try to avoid foods that will spike your blood sugar, in other words carbs and fruits. Fruits are best consumed with a meal that contains plenty of protein to stabilize your blood sugar level. Weight loss isn't easy. A thoughtful and steady lifestyle change will always work however.     So long as you are in a deficit you will lose, just slower the smaller your deficit. You should be fine at 1300.

    Hi, I'm a few months shy of 67 and am losing weight on more than that.

    It depends on your current statistics and level of activity. I'm sedentary, 66 and now weigh 259. I set my calories today to 1540, which is 1 pound/week (or TDEE minus 500). I'm losing pretty steadily at a couple of pounds a week.

    If you are "semi-active," you can probably consume more than that. The important thing is to find something you can stick to.

    Try entering your stats at https://tdeecalculator.net/. Decide how much you want to subtract and enter your own calorie goal on MFP. One pound per week is TDEE-500. Two pounds per week is TDEE-1000. Setting it to two pounds per week is only reasonable if you are very big or very active. 1200 is the minimum necessary to stay healthy so MFP won't let you set it below that.

    Were you weighing your foods when you thought you were eating 1300 calories?
