Depends if you're using net carbs or not... Depends if the label shows net or total carbs...
(neither of those examples are particularly high in carbs though...)1 -
I'm not sure I understand the question - nutrients don't cancel each other out.1

I'm not sure what in your example is high in carbs?
Are you trying to do net carbs? If so, chia seeds are 12 grams of carbs...10 of which are fiber...so you would subtract the fiber and get 2 grams of carbs...same for the avocado. But really, I wouldn't think of either of these as high carb foods.4 -
Should I be using net carbs?0

It's your choice if you want to or not.0 -
You only need to worry about calories if you are focusing on weight loss.1

Depends...I don't really care about carbs in the least...if you're trying to do keto or something then yeah, sure...0 -
Is there something I'm missing with the complicated things people are trying to do?3

I track my net carbs daily as I am on a ketogenic diet. I will continue to do so after I phase off as I plan to keep most meals under a particular net carb amount. This strategy is based on my personal experience and research/reading and I am not suggesting it for anyone else.0

They don't cancel each other out. Dietary fibers are Carbs - good carbs. I was told by my nutritionist that as a diabetic, I should make sure I eat fiber, fat and/or protein to help my body deal with the carbs. So, if you're watching your carb intake, you should make sure you do eat fiber or fat or protein with them.0 -
I track my net carbs as a part of the nutrition plan I'm on with my personal fitness goals. Whether or not you choose to will depend on what your personal goals are.0

Depends on why you are tracking carbs. To see if you should be in keto? Sure. Otherwise? I don't see the point, but it's good to have enough fiber so tracking fiber can be useful if you aren't sure you get a lot already.1
