I have quit drinking for awhile until I lose the 20lbs of beer and pizza in my gut. Can anyone recommend the best book for that. Did not really like the 6pack abs that I read a few years ago. Thanks in advance

I have yet to find a book that gives better information than the stickies and success stories threads here on MFP.8 -
The awesome thing about weight loss is that you don't need a book, a diet, a supplement, or a genie in a bottle. Weight loss happens when you eat less calories than your body needs. You don't even have to eat a dramatically low amount of calories. If your body needs 2600 calories per day and you eat 2100 calories day after day you'll lose weight. That's absolutely all you need.
What does this mean for you? Figure out about how many calories your body needs every day and eat just a little less. MyFitnessPal has done the math for you already, so you enter your stats and select a weight loss rate (1 pound per week is a really good starting point) and there you have your calorie goal. Exercising gives you bonus calories to eat!5 -
The Unabridged Oxford English Dictionary in Hardcover: the twenty volume set. Don't read it (unless you really want to), just carry it around all day.
Just eat fewer calories (preferably in mostly nutritious food) than you use during the day, you'll lose fat.1 -
Although I agree with all of the above comments, I also found "Smart People Don't Diet" very grounded and helpful, even if she doesn't recommend calorie counting.1

Brain over Binge helped me with overeating, and it's cheap as hell. It does advocate calorie counting, exercise, and working with a doctor if you have health issues, making it one of the more reasonable books out there.1

You aren't supposed to eat books.3
