Just don't store them near potatoes. They release moisture and gasses that cause both to go bad faster.

Yes, but proper storage is important. I keep leftover onions in tightly sealed plastic containers so that they don't make the whole fridge smell.

Yeah, I have "dedicated" containers clearly marked "onion." Once you use a plastic container for onion, it's not good for much else. I freeze my chopped onion - but that changes the texture so I have to use it in a cooked dish once it's been frozen.

Yes. You might want to put it in a tightly sealed bag or container to keep the smell contained.

Yup. I keep onion in glass containers.
If our going to cook with it later, freezing works well too

I thought you were going to ask what to use them in. My answer was going to be "EVERYTHING."

Glass container or ziploc bag in a yogurt or some otherwise disposable plastic container (washed out peanut butter jar reserved for this purpose is the best I have found).

Get yourself an avocado or two and store the onion in the same container as the uneaten half of the avocado. It keeps it from going brown.

Pop it in a ziploc bag and into the fridge.
