Maybe. At least it works well for many, many people. Here's an article by NPR about the 5/2 fasting and how it is helping people to more than just lose weight, it is helping them fight off age and lifestyle diseases, too.

I heard this story on the radio this morning. For some people it works and is a good idea, but for me eating this way just led to more binging. I was so hungry after the fasts I couldn't stop eating. Plus on fasting days I felt like crap, low energy, inability to concentrate and my workouts suffered. I think it is more effective for people with a lot of weight to lose, rather than those that only have a few pounds.

I did a stricter version of this, alternate day intermittent fasting, and had great results with it :) Glad this way of eating is getting more and more positive reviews!

I have never tried fasting but I no that I would end up with a gigantic headache my day would be ruined. I am glad it works for people though :)

I tried it one day and also felt terrible -- low energy and almost like I had the flu. However, it seemed to shrink my stomach so I wanted less food for several days. It also looks like it has a lot of benefits other than just losing weight.

I'm with the others on the maybe side of the spectrum... I would get hangry and likely murder someone... I too would end up binging (I have tried doing the 1200 calorie thing here and that lasted all of a day because I was so hungry by the end of the day).

ETA: though I do know a co-worker who is doing this and he is having great results with it.

Seems odd this doesn't get the same backlash reaction as the 5 meals/day concept.

I've done it, found it really good, but I like eating, so I don't do it :(

Some people may not consider it intermittent fasting, but I have had good success just having bulletproof coffee first thing in the morning; I'm usually not hungry until noon (though on days when I am hungry, I eat).
