Given the vastness of space, the number of galaxies in the Universe, the total number of stars, yes. I believe there are other forms of life in the Universe. The size makes it difficult to ever know or contact such beings. And, if the organisms are not advanced enough to build communication tools, we would never know. Example: a planet full of whales. They are obviously intelligent but have no means of advanced communication.

Does it matter? Physics mean that they wouldn't be able to reach us, or we them. We can't even communicate meaningfully with other species on our own world, which have far more in common with us than life which arose independently on another planet would. The overwhelming likelihood is that if there were intelligent species elsewhere, we would not even recognize them, much less be able to communicate. We don't even understand how schools of fish stay together, and fish are our relatives and neighbors.

Do I believe humanoid aliens have visited earth in little ships which are conveniently just enough advanced from our own that they seem possible to someone with an familiarity with human spacecraft and no grasp of relativity? Nope. Absolutely not. But I find it fascinating that so many people are drawn to that belief.

^ This... The universe is estimated to be 20 billion years old, the Earth is only 4 billion - that means that alien life has had potentially billions of years headstart to a) develop and b) find us. If you think about how much evolution has changed us in just the last 1 million years, just think of what a few billion extra years might do.

Space is vast - even if we could travel at light speed, our nearest neighboring galaxies are thousands of years away... Aliens might exist, but they're not visiting.

So there is this expert who thinks that, since all our searching for radio signals or artificial lights has revealed nothing, most civilizations destroy themselves shortly after they become technologically advanced.
Otherwise we would have heard or seen something by now, right?
    Global warming anyone?
Their fearless leaders probably argued that it wasn't happening too.

    Expert huh?

Well.... take a look at the amount of space where those signals have been aimed in relation to the balance of the amount of untargeted space.

It sounds like this expert fella has a hidden agenda or two, it damn sure does.
