Baby wearing

I'm trying to lose 30lbs and I'm going to start doing my walks like I used to.... about 4 miles a day, it's not easy, there's a lot of hills lol my question is: if I do these walks with the baby carrier, will I lose weight faster? I have minor back issues but I don't mind. She's about 18lbs right now.... if it won't make a difference then I'll just put her on the stroller. If it does make a difference then I'm going to start!

I don't know about losing weight faster it depends on your calorie intake. But you will definitely burn more calories. Think about if you are carrying 18 lbs of extra weight on your body you have more perceived exertion thus burning more calories.2

It depends how fast you walk. Check out the various entries for walking in MFP database. There's one for carrying 15 lb baby and the burn is the same was walking at 3mph. Walking at 4 mph burns a lot more per hour, but if you walked 1 hr per day it still comes out to less than 1 lb per month difference. Fork put downs would be more beneficial for weight loss.0

I'm currently staying under 1200 cats a day and I've been pretty consistent. Lost 7lbs just based on that but I want to spice things up.0

Don't stay under 1200 cals. Eat what MFP gives you plus eat back some of your exercise cals. There is nothing Noble about under nourishing oneself.1

I'm not starving. My food diary is pretty full. I don't stay under on purpose and it's not by much. Sometimes I'll even go over by like 100....1

If you have back issues, I'd advise using a stroller. Just carrying around an infant can cause problems, and when problems turn to injuries or discomfort, not exercising happens. Not a good plan. In 30 some years in working out I've learned to TAKE CARE OF YOUR BACK.
Carrying around extra weight while walking or running is now generally discouraged. It used to be in the 1980s carrying around hand and ankle weights was touted as a good idea. But experts found out participants (especially those overweight) were getting joint injuries so that advice was discontinued.2 -
if you are eating at the same calorie amount, then I would think so. You're hauling around that extra weight. I think your arms might hurt though. can you get one of those baby slings?0

One concern about going on a 1 hour and 20 minute (or thereabouts) walk with a baby in a baby carrier is, what if she starts to fuss, becomes uncomfortable, or wants to sleep. That's a long time in baby terms. If you do decide to carry you, you might still want to bring along the stroller and diaper bag so you can change if up if necessary. Nothing more fun than a blowout in a Baby Bjorn.
For your back issues, you might want to start looking into some core-building resistance exercises for at home. I was having increasingly bad back issues with having two kids, but once I started lifting and built a strong core, they haven't been a problem at all.2 -
Personally I love my carrier, I still carry my nearly 3 year old. It's great for long family walks and I have an ergonomic carrier which is comfy for baby and wearer. It does make me feel stronger carrying (especially up hills) as opposed to all bent over with the buggy. And it's great for off road too. As said before there is a setting for carrying weight so you can log it.1

IF you're going to carry the baby , and you want a more accurate caloric estimate, weigh before the walk(wearing the baby), weigh after the walk(without the baby). Average the weights and calculate distance/speed/calories using that body weight.
It will get you closer to right.2 -
I loved my baby carriers, but part of that is because I hated strollers.
We used either a moby wrap or our Infantino everywhere.

A campout:
At a music festival (in the background):
Checking sap lines at the sugar maple farm:
And of course daily walks with our dogs, or at the grocery store.2
