First plateau?

So this weeks weigh in.. I was up .2 lbs! What?! I have been in a deficit every day (even if I went over my MFP calories, it was still less than my daily burn), i log religiously, and if anything, I've amped up my fitness routine. I started Muay Thai kickboxing this week and its super high intensity. How can it be that I'm UP? This is the first time I haven't lost since I started MFP in February. A plateau is a stall... This is a gain... Help!

The first time since February? That is crazy lucky for you! New and intense workouts will make you retain water while your muscles repair.3

Even people who usually lose very predictably will occasionally see weird scale readings. I tend to lose extremely predictably - I don't menstruate, which is a big factor in weight variation for many women - and even when the scale is up while I'm in a deficit, it's almost always because of something I can predict, like eating a high sodium restaurant meal. That said, I've still seen the occasional unexplained gain from time to time. Don't worry about it. 0.2 is nothing.
ETA: I completely missed that you started a new fitness routine a week ago. That's a pretty likely culprit.0 -
0.2lbs?!? Go to the bathroom and push a bit harder...
Weight is not always going to go down. There are many variables. Exercise induced water retention being one. If you only weigh once a week you might miss a low point, or weigh on a high day.9 -
Thanks. Trying not to flip out and stay motivated. It takes nothing for me to feel defeated and emotionally eat!! Hoping its just water or sodium.0

I understand it's discouraging, but I wouldn't consider this a plateau. When you're losing weight, it's perfectly normal to have some weeks where you don't lose or even see a small gain.4

.2 up - in a week is totally not a plateau. If that's all it takes to throw you completely off track and into a downward spiral you may want to consider some counseling or something to deal with your emotions.3

That's what it would look like if you weighed yourself daily and logged it (I do). The scale bounces around up and down 2-3 pounds, based on hydration levels, diet variations, exercise routines, etc. Keep up the good work and you'll continue to see results. Great job keeping it up since February.0
