There is not a default goal setting. The goal depends on the your stats, the rate of loss you choose, and the MFP Activity Level you choose. The maximum rate of loss is two pounds per week, however, the goal will not go below the minimum daily Calorie goal for women of 1200 Cals.

Are you adding exercise or do you have a fitness tracker linked? Both will increase your calorie goal.

Also 1200 is really low especially if you should be eating 1700+. Don't neglect your health in the quest for rapid weight loss.

Did you log an exercise activity? When you log an exercise activity, that day's goal will increase, because MFP is designed to allow users to lose weight without purposeful exercise. When you do purposeful exercise, you need to take in more Calories in order to maintain your desired weekly rate of loss as provided in your setting.

If that is not what is happening, I would recommend opening a Case with Customer Support on the MFP Help/FAQ pages...
