New to My Fitness Pal! To Box or Not to Box??

Hi,

I'm a bit new to online forums being a mommy of 2 keeps me on my toes with little time to be on a computer. My name is Joan I'm 42 a housewife and mother of two kids ages 7 and 3. I've been into fitness all my life and over the past few years boxing classes have been my big form of exercise and weights. I really got into boxing after giving birth to my second child three years ago.

I usually go to boxing class three to for times a week. On Saturday after class the institutor said he wanted to have a word with me. He asked if I would be interested in steeping into the ring to do an actual boxing match in a few weeks. He said he had is eye on me for a while and liked my style and form and had an opponent in mind. Needless to say I was flattered and surprised!! Minivan driving mom's/housewife’s don't box! But I kind of liked the idea, I like the thrill I get from sparring, and I think this could be an even bigger thrill to climb into the ring and slug it out!!

My hubby is supportive and wants me to do what I feel is right. But told me to be cautious and reminded me I could possibly get hurt. My friends are 50/50.

I Was wondering if anyone on this forum ever boxed what is it like?? Is it a thrill when you climb into the mat?

Joan

It all depends on your instructor.. If you trust him I say go for it! It won't be the rocky movie all over but you'll learn a lot. I think if you don't you'll wish you did later. The worst part is the omg I'm gonna die feeling. Then once you've done it you'll have a huge adrenaline rush and the feeling of victory that you didn't die :) win or lose its a great experience.

    Hope that helps,

  • That sounds exciting but very scary!! I would be running around the mat saying don't hit me, don't hit me!! If you have a supportive husband than maybe give one fight a chance.

Go for it sounds pretty fun. Its a good way to release unwanted stress and get in great shape.
