We had a potluck tonight, and I feel like I did pretty well. I filled up one plate that was pretty balanced. I just tried a small amount of the things that looked good, chose 1 small item off the dessert table, and managed to not go back for seconds. Compared to how much I would have eaten before MFP, I think it was a big success. Now, how do I track it though? I had about 800 calories allotted for dinner (including my exercise calories for the day.) I doubt I ate more than that. Would you attempt to track (guesstimate) the actual food that you remember eating or just call it a day? I'm fairly certain that I didn't GO OVER the 800 calories, but since I didn't overeat, I feel like I might need a little snack later yet. I'm not sure how many cals I have left for that....kwim?
I know it is only one day/meal, and I am by no means stressed out about it. I'm just curious how other people usually navigate this situation since I'm fairly new to MFP and plan to be here for the long haul! Thanks!

I don't log every day, so I would probably just skip the whole day. But if I were logging that day, I would make a guess. A plateful of decent choices with one dessert at a potluck is probably in the 800 range.0

With potlucks and buffets I tend to just pick a similar dish/es and track the serving size I ate. It may not be completely accurate, but it's close and gives me some ideas on protein, carbs, and fat.0

I've been known to take a picture of my plate with something as a size comparison, then guesstimate it later.
Congrats on the willpower!0 -
I pretty much head for the veggie tray (pretty much every potluck has one! Yay, lazy dude who just wanted to come eat and not cook!) and stay there if I can. If there is no veggie tray, I essentially take a plate and eat maybe a quarter of it and then double the calories I think I had.
Good thing about potlucks for me is that a lot of people are terrible cooks, so I'm rarely much interested in gorging at them...0
