Hello everyone
I wonder if anyone can help me with homemade Indian food. I just wanted to know how many calories in a homemade Indian chapatti made without fat. Roughly the size would be about 50g.The thing is on mfp I get different answers with calories. Also if I add daal with it, roughly the whole meal works out to be about 500 calories, is this right? Also can you please give advice on calories on homemade Indian food. Thxs.

If it's homemade, try adding each ingredient in to the recipe builder, and how many serves you'll make from the recipe. Using random entries from the database won't be accurate as you can't know how the food in the entry was prepared.

This will apply for breads, daal, curries etc.

Definitely try to go homemade and track everything you add. It will make it a lot easier for precise tracking.

yes go to the recipe builder in 'food>recipes' and create a new recipe

then add each ingredient one by one, weighing them down to the nearest gram, when you've listed them all you will know how many calories are in the batch

then decide how many calories you want in a serving and divide the batch i.e a saucepan full of curry has 3000 cals of ingredients and you want a 500 calorie portion, then divide by 6

I'm batch cooking this way all the time now, freezing the extra portions and I eat a lot of indian food (although not making breads, I'm eating rice with it)

Well for chapati I calculate like this.
One cup flour = 406 calories
Just add salt and water make a dough. You can make 2-3 chapati from one cup whole wheat flour. So for one chapati it would be like around 130 calories. Hope that helps.

PS: Indian/Pakistani food is extremely calorie rich. One cup cooked daal vs one cup uncooked one have a high difference. Better to make all things from scratch at home.
