Does this work? Of course in addition to diet/exercise. I've read that people have great success, but I'm not sure if its snake oil.

It is the diet and exercise part that works. The rest is snake oil.1

The main ingredient of Tonalin CLA, is safflower oil. There are pros and cons to using safflower oil.

BUT, real Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are a family of at least 28 isomers of linoleic acid found mostly in the meat and dairy products derived from ruminants (cows). It is higher in grass fed cows.
Consequently, if you ate food prepared with grass fed ghee you would get a higher amount (for less money).
Use the ghee to saute your veggies and meat, poultry, fish.
Paleo / Keto diets work as well / better providing you maintain a calorie deficit.
Your Paleo / Keto macros would be 15% sugar / carbs; 45% protein; 40% healthy fat.
See this website for a list: http://paleoiq.com/best-paleo-diet-blogs/
Also, check out the Weston A Price foundation for information on Traditional diets.

Note, they recommend not eating less than 100 g of carbs eat day in order to support your thyroid. While you won't go into ketosis on 100 g of carbs, you will still incur an energy deficit in your carbs and will lose the bad fat / lose weight.
Also consider researching / supplementing with 7-Keto DHEA (fat burner -- I like pure encapsulations brand) and desiccated whole adrenal (supports lower cortisol levels -- I like the nutri-meds brand).

http://www.nationalnutrition.ca/Supplement_Adrenal_Glandular.aspx
Bottom line:
Maintain a calorie deficit; eat less carbs, more protein / healthy fat; add grass-fed ghee; and, supplement with 7-keto DHEA and low dose adrenal hormone.
Weight loss should be gradual but steady to limit the amount of sagging skin from rapid weight loss.

I thought DHEA was illegal to sell. I guess not. I remember reading about how dangerous it was. Something about hormones. Anyone know if it's legal/illegal?
Not sure if 100+grams of carbs/day is really necessary to support a thyroid. And powdered adrenal gland pills really exist? EH?0 -
I take Tonalin and am happy with the product.5

Gosh, that first site I hit of tonalin really put that product in a negative light. Isn't it scary to take things like that? Or is it the sites that scare people? http://www.livestrong.com/article/262619-side-effects-of-tonalin/
