How to understand FitBit calories?

This may sound stupid but - I recently got a Fitbit and it shows calories burned as a whole amount (including my bmr). I'm unsure of how to figure out what calories are from my BMR and what are from my exercise calories. For some reason the two apps are syncing together so I have to manually enter the burned calories into MFP.
Hopefully that makes sense, if not I'm sorry.

Do you mean to say they aren't syncing? Because if they are syncing the adjustment will be done for you. You start getting fitbit calories when you burn over and above what MFP already assumes you'll burn during the day. So if you're not very active you will not see an adjustment. Or if you have your activity level set higher on MFP it will take longer to see an adjustment.1

I would recommend reading through the first three posts in this thread on the MFP Fitbit Users group...
