Swimming for weight loss

Hi everyone
So I know that swimming is a great way to shed the first few pounds when you're quite heavily over weight. But I'm around 140Ibs and want to lose another 20Ibs (ish). I have a bad stress fracture so can't run for a few weeks. I really enjoy swimming but never really considered it as my main form of cardio exercise. Do you think an hour a day would be as effective as running?
