My boyfriend is due to have a back operation and won't be able to do much for a couple of months. He will be off work with loads of free time. Any suggestions about what he can do. At the moment all his hobbies are very active.

    Fold the washing? Sort socks?

    Seriously...
I love reading and if I had that much spare time and unable to be active then I would be looking at reading books I've always wanted to and increasing my knowledge.
    kind regards,

    Ben

Reading, if he is keen on learning a new language Rosetta Stone is good, xBox/PS or an intensive game like Warcraft, marathon all those shows he's wanted to watch...

he can come to my house and sort our old photos, papers, etc.

All of the above are excellent suggestions (moderate drinking of course) I am a puzzle person myself, the 1500-2000 pieces kind; and a reader. depending upon the natural of his surgery, he may be kept busy with physical therapy, which is a good thing too. He may also enjoy building models-- cars airplanes, tanks, etc.

Crosswords or sudoku keep the mind active! How about arts and crafts? Men also cross stitch, knit and sew. Painting or sketching. Model making. Scrapbooking.

Watch films or catch up on some great TV series like The Wire, The West Wing or Breaking Bad. He'll get addicted to one of those shows I promise you.

If he can sit at a desk, he could learn html / css.

If he will be lying down, a language course on a podcast or similar.

Thanks. We've discussed most of them. Ordering lots of DVDs and books. He's not interested in computer games or puzzles but will go to a shop tomorrow to look at models to make.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
