Sometimes I go over my sodium I would say maybe 3 times a week. I go over by 1000-1500 mg. Although I drink 3-4L of water a day I want to know does it affect my weight loss??

A higher sodium day may result in temporary water retention, but it isn't going to impact your actual fat loss.4

It may affect your weight in terms of water retention, but it does not affect your fat loss.0

Only water weight...sodium has nothing to do with gaining or losing fat..it's just a mineral.0

The last time I ate pizza the number on the scale went up about a pound over night. It was gone two days later. Unless your doctor told you to watch your sodium, don't worry about it.0

I don't even track sodium. 11lbs down in 55 days and 1lb to go!1

In most people, going over on sodium on occasion simply means retaining some water. However, regularly going over your sodium recommendation could have longer term impacts on your weight/health. The increased blood volume that results from your body holding onto the excess water is what raises your blood pressure. High blood pressure is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease.
USDA 2010 Guidelines:
Reduce daily sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams (mg) and further reduce intake to 1,500 mg among persons who are 51 and older and those of any age who are African American or have hypertension, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease. The 1,500 mg recommendation applies to about half of the U.S. population, including children, and the majority of adults.1
