I gained a kg today! Surprised and frustrated!! What am I doing wrong!! Last 5 days I've been eating under my calorie goal. My goal is 1200 and I eat just above 1000. Yesterday for the first time I even did 20 mins of exercise. I have no idea what is happening!!
I do drink 6-8 glasses of water minimum on a day, everyday.
My fat intake though have been over the goal all these days. (-1 to -35) Could it be the problem? I wasn't looking at the macros individually. I cared only about the calories going in.

Dietary fat does not make you fat. Weight loss is not linear. Our bodies retain water from time to time when we start new exercise programs, drink more water than normal, have a little bit more sodium than normal, or if we are at certain points in our cycle (women at least).
What you should do from here is make sure that you are using a food scale when you are logging your food and have a little bit more patience to see this out for a few more weeks before you panic.7 -
I would spend 30$ on a hand held body fat monitor... Takes the anxiety out of the scale numbers wiggling up and down. If you use it under the same conditions at the same time of day (e.g. Hydrated, naked, empty stomach) it gives out very consistent results.5

I would not because the OP might be experiencing a water weight fluctuation which is impacting the scale and the body fat monitor is going to be off as well. Buying a $2 tape measure and a $15 food scale is a better investment.13 -
It may, but to be honest the BF% variance is much smaller than the scale variance. I fluctuate in water weight wildly (many women do) and my omron is surprisingly consistent. It is for my husband as well.
That said a tape measure is a great suggestion as well. We log weight, body fat, and measurements once per week. These are not mutually exclusive purchases.1 -
My body fat on the Omron reads 31% one day and 25% the next. I can be anywhere between the two even with a consistent scale weight. My actual body fat is lower than both readings.4

Well that sucks. I'm glad mine works1

It is perfectly normal for weight to fluctuate from day to day. Just stick with your plan!1

I don't know OP. Trying to lose body fat sucks! It's frustrating, depressing, rewarding....all in the same day.1

You would have to eat 28,000 kilojoules over your maintenance calorie limit to gain 1 kg. It's impossible to gain that much fat in one day - your body can't convert that much food to fat so quickly.
