I started last week...

My personal trainer requested that I share my food log with her, so I decided to use My Fitness Pal and give her access. My wife and I have both had memberships at 24 Hour Fitness for the past year, but during that time we really only used the eliptical machines and the hot tub. I signed up to see a personal trainer 3 times per week. Right now my goal is to just get into a habit of going to the gym on a regular basis.
I know what being "in shape" feels like. I was a healthy, sometimes even skinny child. I was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I also enjoyed arnis and karate classes into adulthood. After college, I started "writing code" and spent more time in front of a computer and less time being active. 20 years later and I still feel young, but my weight has become a burden, preventing me from really getting the most out of life.
Almost 2 years ago I was involved in a motorcycle accident that cost me a month in the hospital and my spleen. It was incredibly difficult to get up and move, both due to the injuries, and honestly, my own weight. After 2-3 weeks in bed, I had a pulmonary embolism that kept me in the hospital even longer. That scared me, and I knew that if I were healthier, my recovery would have been faster. I might have avoided the pulmonary embolism. I am fully recovered now.
We (my wife and I) are planning a trip to Peru in 2018. If we want to climb Machu Picchu, or enjoy photography around Lima or Cuzco, we will need to be in better shape than we are now. I discovered that there is a 24 Hour Fitness literally 2 blocks from my office. I have worked in the same location for 6 years; go figure. So last week I decided to hire a personal trainer, and I have been working out at the gym during noon hour every day.
So anyway, I started last week.
