I binged again

So today is the second day in a row that i have binged once i leave work. I work 4pm to midnight Monday through Friday. I went to taco bell and got 4 burritos (which come out to be my daily calorie goal of 1500) and ate them within 10 minutes. I honestly feel like i could eat more which is horrible. I know my overeating comes from wanting to cover up emotions i don't want to deal with. I've been feeling off lately and I'm not sure why. I recently switched the hours i work from 12 hour shifts. I had intentions of going to the gym after work and eating healthy but that's obviously not happening. I just feel lost and hopeless about this issue.

What does your day look like at the moment Krista? I can see obviously that you work 4pm-12am, but how is the rest of your day structured?

It may be best to try and eat a good sized meal before you head off to work. I assume that working an 8 hour shift you get some sort of break? What are you eating during that time?

I used to work 2pm-11pm shifts at a restaurant with a 30 minute break for food (technically I also had a 15 minute break, but rarely took it) so I would eat a really big lunch before I left. My food break was usually reserved for getting some water and having a rest, and then I had a light supper when I got home at around 12am. I slept until 8am, attended my University lectures until 11/12am and then did the same the next day. I lost around 20lbs during this time.

If you're free in the day before work, I suggest exercising then and trying to fill yourself up. Leave yourself around 400-500 calories for a PLANNED supper before bed.

    Hope this helps

I really like this guy he has a lot of good easy to read articles, might be worth it to check him out, I found this article about messing up by binging and his thoughts on it

Note* because of MFP change the word kitten to the F word in the link, or it won't take you there.

I don't typically eat anything at work during my 8 hour shift. I do get two 15 minute breaks.

I don't typically eat anything during my 8 hour shift. I get two 15 minute breaks. I have a desk job and they don't care if we eat at our desk i just never do.

I normally get up around 1030 am and have my first meal. I then eat again about 130 pm before i go to work. I won't eat again until i leave work.

Is this often or are you just upset you did it? We all have "wth" days. What about yesterday? Day before? Day before that? If this is a common occurrence.. DONT ORDER FOUR BURRITOS! Order two and grab a bag of salad from the store. Eat the salad first.. Try to have a healthy snack at your desk already portioned out. I like to buy a bag of seeds and portion them out in baggies. Grab a baggy to stick in your purse for work. Can be fruit or something else.. veggies.. boiled eggs.. pepperoni.. a combo.. get trail mix. Just DONT bring the whole bag with you. Only a couple of serving sizes. Then after work, decide to go straight home and gave your salad or order a limited number of burritos. Maybe it would help to order by calories instead? Get a menu with the calories on it and circle which one you want that day. Include it in your diet.

I used to regularly get fast food after work. I felt like it was my reward for working. I did this for years, until I finally admitted (even though it tastes amazing and I feel good for eating it), it makes me sad to be overweight. This took me awhile to get to that point. I keep a healthy snack to eat in my car, so I eat it immediately upon getting in my car after work.

You said you recently switched shifts? The stress from switching shifts and not eating for almost 12 hours could be causing blood sugar problems, even if you're not diabetic.

Personally when my blood sugar gets low (I am diabetic) I massively overeat. I'm only supposed to eat 15 grams of carbs and wait 15 minutes, but I usually end up eating a lot more than that and about 400 calories if I'm not careful.

I believe, but haven't looked into the science to see if this is more than an opinion or not, so take it with a large grain of salt, that this urge to eat is the bodies way of preventing death from the blood sugar dropping to low. Despite weighing 307 at my heaviest I don't usually have the urge to *binge*, and by binge I mean eat *anything* I can get my hands on that has sugar in it. Only when my blood sugar gets down too low, so I almost feel like it's uncontrollable (the urge, I am capable of controlling what I put in my mouth, but it's HARD for about fifteen minutes).

Actual hypoglycemia (blood sugar of 70 or lower) you feel physically awful; shaking, and sick to your stomach sometimes, but you don't have to have blood sugar that low to get the physiological urge to stuff your face.

I would suggest eating a snack, a small handful of almonds and a stick of string cheese say, about nine or ten and see if that helps. Something with protein and fat to keep the blood sugar stable.

If you still find yourself doing it, then there might be emotional issues that might benefit from self-examination either by a self-help book or two or with the help of a professional. Everyone can benefit from therapy, really.
