Calorie deficit. It's the same for everyone, but different people have different methods to get there. Some do keto, paleo, some just count their calories and eat less of what they usually eat. You'll be the most successful when you find a.)what works for you in terms of eating and keeping you satisfied and b.)what you can stick to long term when you reach your goal weight and go into maintenance. Do exercise that'll help you maintain what muscle you have and don't aim for a weekly loss greater than 2lbs (and that may even be too much depending on how much you have to lose). Be consistent, don't beat yourself up when life happens, and be patient.4

Set a reasonable calorie deficit goal that you can stick with until you have lost the weight.
Exercise during weight loss and include resistance exercises to keep as much of your current muscle as possible.
Eat a balanced diet and make sure you get enough protein, which also helps with preserving muscle.3
