Lifting and Ciprofloxacin

Hey all, I've been doing the strong curves program for the last six weeks. Unfortunately, I have to take Ciprofloxacin for 7 days for an infection. I've been feeling too tired to go to the gym anyway, but I've heard that this drug can make you more susceptible to tendon rupture/injury.
Is anyone familiar with this? If I feel better before I'm done taking it is it safe to lift weights? Or if not.. For how long do I need to be careful? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I don't know anything regarding this drug and added risk of injury.
(Try the product information booklet, your pharmacist or website such as Drugs.com for specific info in that regard)
That said, while fighting infection your body is already under added stress so deloadingbor resting is probably a good idea.0 -
Yes, it is a black box warning and absolutely can happen. I would ask doctor to change it to something else. "These adverse effects can occur within hours of commencing treatment and months after discontinuing the use of these drugs. In some cases, fluoroquinolone usage can lead to complete rupture of the tendon and substantial subsequent disability."0

Are you also taking any steroids for the infection ( like prednisone or methylprednisolone)? Taking the steroids with cipro greatly increases the risk of tendon damage. Seriously, call your Dr. or ask the pharmacist to contact him/her and get it changed to another medication. There are other antibiotics that are safer choice provided you are not allergic to anything else.0

Yikes! Thanks for the replies. That info is a bit worrying. I am not taking any type of steroid with it.
Only issue with changing it is I've been on it since Tuesday night so at this point since it's already been in my system it might be too late to switch..hrmmmm..0 -
Someone in my family recently had to take this. I do recall the doctor saying you could get tendonitis. I don't know about rupture, you could ask the pharmacist or look up the drug info online.0

Call your doctor and ask.
I ran a race over a month after taking Ciprofloxacin. My tendonitis, which hadn't bothered me in over a year, flared up so badly I had trouble walking for at least a week. I will never take it again.1
