Meal before Zumba?

I'm doing Zumba for the first time tonight at 6pm. Is pasta a good idea before going? Should I eat before or after? These are the things that cross my mind.

Personally I can't eat right before I workout, it makes me nauseous. If you are okay with it then I would go ahead and eat but I wouldnt eat something heavy such as pasta.0

I like light carbs before Zumba so that I have energy but don't have a rock in my stomach. A banana is good. Sometimes have a light dinner when class is right at dinner time, otherwise it would be too late for me to eat when I get home. Sometimes that's oatmeal or cereal, sometimes a sandwich... Pasta would probably be fine, just keep the portion small, and try not to eat within 30 minutes of the start time. Think about it like you're going to go running.0 -
I do Zumba 2-3 times a week. When I go in the evening usually don't eat anything. I will have a snack (like a banana) before only if I am hungry. Personally, pasta would make me sluggish and heavy-feeling. You can try anything though and change it up as you go. You'll love Zumba! I started in March and I'm addicted. My class is tonight and I can't wait! :happy:

I try not to eat anything at least 2-3 hours before I go to zumba in the evenings. A light snack at the 2-3 hour before mark does the trick for me. If I eat too close to zumba I go through the hour fearing a revisit of that food in the most unappetizing return. Likewise a few years back my husband and i were out running errands. It was about an hour before the class I I downed a frozen drink. Seriously, a drink can't be bad eh? I felt that drink sloshing in my body the WHOLE time!0

I teach Zumba 3 times a week and agree with everyone here. I have done everything from eating just a granola bar to having a full meal before class. When I do eat heavier, I feel sluggish and feel (for lack of a better term) lunch coming back up. I know it's hard because sometimes classes are over at 7/8pm, sometimes later and we don't like to eat that late. However, it is important to have some protein after you workout. Small portions of course. I would say, stay away from anything acidic a few hours before class (I still have flashbacks from the tomato soup I once ate an hour before). It's better to eat your carbs earlier in the day anyway, so if you want to have pasta I would say a small portion a few hours before would be fine.0
