I can't loose weight...

Hey there everyone, I'm posting here because I can't seem to loose weight. I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life. At 275 pounds. And miserable with life. And my body. I've been a yoyo dieter since my early 20's. I've tried everything out there and. Nothing seems to work for me. I loose a few pounds here and there but always gain it right back. I've made small changes recently like cutting out soda and not eating as much sugar. I did have my thiroid tested and the results came back as over active. So I had to be put on a medication for that and dr said to start working out 30 min a day. And I've been doing that. I also walk a lot at my job. So I'm just at a loss as to why I can't loose the weight. Any advice would be great thanks in advance!!

Are you tracking your calories at all and eating at a calorie deficit?4

Calorie deficit is how ALL weight loss works.....so it will definitely help. Calories in vs. calories out.
You don't need to eliminate favorite foods for weight loss. But find a way to moderate portions instead. That's the beauty of logging, you can see the "value" for everything. Then eliminate that food if it's not worth the calories to you.13 -
If you track regularly, accurately (weigh all solids, preferably in grams, measure all liquids, any kitchen scale from Walmart will do as long as they measure in grams which most of then do), and consistently you'll see his changes. You may have to adjust your calories, but eat what MFP gives you as an allowance for a couple months and see what happens.
I've done this for almost a year, started at 307. I've lost 45 pounds. I'd have lost more, but I took the summer off and ate at maintance. Which is a good idea once in a while too.
Just focus on one day at a time. Be kind to yourself when you screw up, because you're not perfect and you will. And start over as often as you need to. You can do this. Calorie counting works for everyone.6 -
Hey girl - I'm sending you a friend request! You sound a lot like me when I started on here.
I started out at 265 and I've always been a yoyo dieter too. I'm down over 30lbs just following MFP and eating at a calorie deficit. Invest in a food scale, be honest with you logging, try to hit your calorie goal every day, and you should see results. I don't have to feel deprived - I eat whatever I want, whenever I want, so long as it fits in my goals. I can eat ice cream if I have the calories left over at the end of the day! The only purposeful exercise I do is walking. Let me know if you have any questions or just want to talk. We're all in this together!9 -

^^This. I used to be a yo yo dieter as well. Making gradual small changes will increase the chance that you'll keep it off and becoming more of a lifestyle change vs a diet. Diets end, lifestyle changes are for life. I used to be a drastic dieter - I couldn't wait for the weight to fall off..and it did, but then it also came back, plus some & pretty fast because I went back to old habits.
Things that worked for me: Get a food scale and use it. (the first time I weighed pasta, I about fell over!) Fiber is your friend, if you don't eat a lot now, gradually increase and drink water. Being active isn't necessary to lose weight, however, for me, I find that I tend to eat better when I consistently work out. And working out doesn't mean the gym. It can be walking, dancing, yoga, anything you like.
Good luck! Be patient, it doesn't happen overnight. And if you do go off the wagon, make that U turn and come right back. Don't throw the towel in because of one over calorie day or meal.
There's a ton of support here, use it, ask questions or search for similar topics, because someone has probably asked the same questions as you. That being said, what works for me may not work for you.4 -

You can get a perfectly workable scale for $10-20. I started using one this year, and found that it became second nature pretty quickly.0 -

Mine was $20, but mostly because I didn't shop around. I just grabbed the available option at my local Target. A friend got hers on eBay for $8. So they're fairly affordable.1 -
Generally under $20 can get you started out pretty well for a food scale.
I have one like this from Walmart (you may have to get near Portland or Sherwood; might not be in the smaller grocery stores, though I'm sure they have others):
It really is an eye-opener to get some accuracy in measurement...
you'll get this and see some progress -- just hang on for the ride!2 -
I'm only on day 75 and I'm not expert at all but from my first 10 weeks this is what I would sum up.
Step 1: Calculate Your BMR. This is the number of calories every day you need to eat to function. Eating below this number is counterproductive
Step 2: Either calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) or just use the MFP calculation.
Step 3: Set a daily calorie intake somewhere between your BMR & TDEE levels. Or choose a weekly weight loss and let MFP choose your calories for you.
Step 4: Weigh your food and log it before you eat it. This will teach you plenty about how many calories are in each meal. Weigh everything or measure liquids accurately by volume.
You can set the amount of carbs, fat and protein you eat. a 40, 30, 30 ratio is common.
Tips: eat the best food you can afford and bulk it out with low calorie foods like mushrooms, lettuce etc to fill up
be consistent
people will tell you to drink loads of water, really not necessary for weight loss
friend loads of people and check their food diaries for inspiration
don't under eat
trust & commit to the process, it will work, it will just take time
I've been at this for 75 days and have still another 110lbs to go so will be around a long time
Good luck1 -
I'm where your at and had issues losing at first to. I'll be happy to add you!1

Looks like you're getting some great advice. Once you get your calories set and you're food scale you'll be on your way.
Something I like to do is save a few calories everyday for a treat to look forward to.. just saving a 50-100 calories a day gets me a 300-600 calorie bank to use for eating out or a favorite food.
You can do this...just stick with it!!!
