Looks like my dad is actually doing it :)

After months of talking about it, dad has finally started making a healthier change. He's decided to start it off by making smoothies out of fruit and kale and having only that and healthy soup for five days. I don't necessarily agree with that approach, but the point is my dad's trying to do something, so I'm cheering him on. Go Dad

I wish both of you luck. :)
Does he like raw kale? A liquid diet for five days won't hurt him, but I hope you can eventually show him that there is really no agreement as what counts as "healthy."
For example, it would be good for him to get enough protein and fats as they are important.

He put kale in his smoothie batch today. I tasted a leaf for the first time. It was nice. Honestly, though, since my diet isn't perfect (though it's better than before), I wouldnt be one to talk to him about the right way to do it. He even tells me eggs and oatmeal aren't healthy, and those make up a considerable amount of my diet, not to mention sometimes I have treats and I slip up now and again. I just hope he'll find what works for him.

I wish my dad would also take a step to bring healthier. He's not big at all weight wise I just had a dream whenever I was younger of my dad having an heart attack which is quite possible with the way he eats, so I wish he would to get healthy not to lose weight!

I put my eggs in my oatmeal, and I love it for the protein kick in the morning. As he goes down this path, he'll see lots of arguments for and against pretty much everything out there. 10 eggs a day, every day? Probably not the healthiest thing in the world, especially if they're served basted and with tons of cheese. Packaged oatmeal that has a whole bunch of added sugar? Again, pretty likely to not be the healthiest thing in the breakfast aisle. But plain old oats that you cook yourself and chuck in a little nut butter or fruit (or even chocolate)? Poached or hard boiled or scrambled eggs? Not so bad. There's healthier/lighter choices to pretty much everything out there, and there are no absolutely right ways to do anything.

And great for you dad, taking that first step. Maybe you and he can start going for walks together (or some other shared activity) and talk about what's working - or not - for both of you.

    Go Dad!

I’ve seen subtle changes with my own dad this year - he’s lost a bit of weight as a result. So very proud of him. When he told me that he started riding the stationary bike 3x a week for 3 miles at a time at his community gym, you couldn’t knock the grin off my face.

May both our fathers have good willpower, strength and determination to make additional changes for better health.

Nice! I wish him the best, he'll figure stuff out. My dad unfortunately took up smoking again (heart attack about 8 years ago caused him to quit). But he recently started going to the gym regularly, and the other day talked about bringing a chicken salad to work instead of a Bagel and cheese sandwich. He loves his bread, so to even think about it surprised me!
