Up and down results the first month

Hi, I'm new here. I just started tracking my intake and exercise on Sept. 8, so I'm coming up on my first month. My weight loss has been a small roller coaster ride so far- down 6lbs, then up 2, down 1.5, and so on. As of today I have a net loss of 4 lbs for this first month. Has anybody else experienced this up and down in the first month? It's hard to deal with a 2 pound gain after being so diligent with tracking. Thoughts, anyone? Thanks.

Weight loss is not linear, you can expect the scale to fluctuate a bit. Over the past month you have averaged a pound a week loss, which is very good. Keep it up.2

That's pretty much how weight loss works....it's not a linear function...body weight isn't static and fluctuates naturally day to day...those fluctuations show up whether you're losing or maintaining which is why you have to look at the trend...so as a general trend you're losing about 1 Lb per week which is pretty solid.3 -
That is how it works. Get a trend app (Happy Scale for IOS, Libra for Android, trendweight.com I think for a website) and track often (I do it daily) to see the trend line. As long as the trend is going down you're doing fine.0

Perfectly normal! 4 pounds in one month is solid. How does that align with the weekly weight loss goal you chose?
Additionally, your profile says you are female, so if you're still in your childbearing years you will almost certainly see fluctuations related to your cycle.0
