I am wanting to loose weight. I have never been into exercise, but really want to get into it. I have joined a gym, but am a complete beginner. I need some help and advice on where to start?

Get a personal trainer, even just a couple of sessions they give you exercises and cover the techniques etc

Agree on utilising the resources at the gym, but if you want to do something on your own, I found this structure very accessible: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/fitness/Pages/12-week-fitness-plan.aspx

Losing weight is largely a function of being in a calorie deficit; eat less than you burn. Exercise can contribute to that, but it need not.

In the gym is generally suggest a combination of cardiovascular exercise, to boost your stamina and strengthen your heart, and resistance training to help your strength and to retain lean mass as you lose weight.

Personally I'm not keen on gym machines but I'd recommend a bike or rowing machine as a good approach.

As far as resistance training is concerned I'd ask at your induction of you can get guidance on that side of things. Form is important, and in any gym I've used you can get periodic support in terms of designing a plan. I'd veer away from a PT in the first instance as they're not going to tell you anything you can't find out elsewhere.

I'd support the suggestion of looking at the NHS site above, it's pretty good for entry level fitness.
