This is so simple and y'all may have already seen/tried it. Last night I really wanted something sweet to round out my evening so I

Cored one granny smith apple, saving the top for a top - 80 calories
stuffed 2 tsps of brown sugar in the hole - 30 calories
sprinkled 1/4 tsp of cinnamon on that - 6 calories
placed a tsp of butter on top of that - 35 calories
replaced the top and put the apple in a bowl in the microwave. Heated for 5 minutes (will do less next time)

A yummy dessert for 151 calories. Apple pie without the crust? Idk what to call it other than tasty!

Nice! I may try it when the weather gets cold, is still too warm for a hot dessert. But I will skip the cinnamon (mild allergy and I totally dislike that spice), and replace the brown sugar with Splenda. Have you tried to bake the apple in the toaster oven instead of using the microwave; any difference in the taste?

I haven't used the oven - didn't want to heat up the house. Cool weather is late getting to my part of Alabama, but the rainy weather made me want a taste of fall. I might try baking several in one go once the weather cools a bit. Sorry about your allergy. I love cinnamon. Can't stand anything remotely licorice-like. Blech!

Thanks for getting back to me Wanda (I don't like licorice either...). Cooking the apple in the microwave would be faster, for sure, but maybe trying the toaster oven while eating dinner, when the weather gets cooler, will give us a ready to eat desert when we are done. What about some Ready Whip on top or even vanilla ice cream for "a la mode" treat :) ?

I do this, but sometimes put sultanas or walnuts in, although I don't use any butter (other than a bit on the bottom of the pan to stop the sugar sticking) it also works with other fruits.
