Any Fire Fighters?

I'm currently training with the goal of being a wildland firefighter in the summer. For months, I've been running 3x per week, strength training 2x per week, and 1 day of hiking or more often, when I can't make it to the trails, I swim. Then one full rest day. So far my best run has been 2 miles at a 12 min pace. I have a fair amount of muscle, about 147 lbs of lean body mass. I'm female, 19, 192 lbs (and losing) I just have a couple of questions for those with experience..
1. Is it possible for me to achieve the fitness level needed within the next 5-6 months? (I'm going to try, either way, I just want realistic expectations)
2. Am I training in a beneficial way for my goals or is there something I need to change?

Thanks!

Do you home and run with a pack?

@NorthCascades I haven't been running with a pack, I wasn't sure if I should take that step yet. But when I hike I usually have about a 10 lb pack... planning on slowly increasing the weight. Maybe I'll start wearing one while I run, thanks.

    Smokejumper Base in Winthrop, WA.

They're very friendly people. They run free tours for anyone who shows up, and they're happy to talk about fire and wildland firefighting.

If you call them and say what you said in your first post, they'll thank you for wanting to join their profession, and they'll give you good advice.

By the way, thanks for wanting to help. Fire is a terrible problem here.

How has your training been going? I have a few friends that have done wildland firefighting, it's a rewarding job and definitely keeps you in shape. Hope you are reaching your goals :)
